Sometimes you may want to structure a formal communication, informally. In formal writing, contractions are not used (except for <em>o&#8217;clock&#8230;.)<\/em>\u201d<\/li>\n<li><em>The Chicago Manual of Style<\/em> doesn&#8217;t explicitly pass judgment on the appropriateness of contractions, but it gives many examples of them. It says, for example, that \u201cDon&#8217;t you want more?\u201d sounds more natural than \u201cDo not you want more?\u201d<\/li>\n<li><em>The Associated Press Stylebook:<\/em> \u201cContractions reflect informal speech and writing. . . . Avoid excessive use of contractions.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Even the U.S. government advocates using contractions to make writing easier to read. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/content-design\/writing-for-gov-uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Government Style Manual<\/a> instructs you to \u201cWrite as you talk\u201d to increase the ease with which your writing can be read and understood. One of the best methods of achieving this is through the use of contractions.
